UPVC Replacement Door Handles

Over time, the handles on your doors will wear down and will require replacement. It is essential to keep the same dimensions as the handles you have previously replaced when replacing them.

The uPVC/composite door handles (Related Home Page) are constructed of durable materials and are suitable for multi-point lock doors which require a robust design. The handles are inline, and they utilize the same screws and spindle to fix them. They are easily fitted on any upvc handle window/Composite door.

The handle can be adjusted and angled to accommodate all users. The handle has been tested for endurance up to 200,000 cycles. This helps to ensure that the quality of finish and performance will last for a long time. The lever that is sprung can be reduced to accommodate a wider range of locks. This is useful for narrower doors where the cylinder is situated further back in the door. A lever that is shorter is an excellent option for doors that have latches that can be opened by a thumb turn on the inside.

Lever Pad

A Lever Pad door handle made of upvc functions differently than lever handles and hinges found on most doors. These handle types are either operated by a single spindle or by two spindles, either inline or offset. They are generally used on UPVC double glazed doors and are available in a variety of variations and styles.

The handles have been tested to the minimum of 200,000 cycles and are available in various finishes, including White, Silver, Chrome & Gold. The finish is in line with BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, giving the handle a high degree of durability and performance for the intended use.

All of the UPVC lever pad styles for handles come with a spindle and screws, allowing them to be installed on any new or existing uPVC door. The backplate fixation centres of 211mm allow for a wider handle, which is often a benefit when replacing an old or damaged multi-point door handle replacements lock mechanism. The handle levers are sprung, solving the problem of handles hanging from their horizontal position when they are not in use.

When selecting the replacement UPVC handle and spindle, it is important to match the dimensions of the PZ on both the multipoint lock and the uPVC door. This measurement is often referred to as the 'handle centre' or 'cylinder centres which is a crucial aspect of matching up the correct handles.

After you have identified the proper PZ size, you will need to make sure that the push and lever pads are designed to match the American with Disabilities Act compliant handles you require for your door. These are typically of a round or square shape with an internal lever and external push pad.

The majority of UPVC Lever Pads that we sell are sprung. This means they can be reverted to a horizontal position after not being used instead of hanging and possibly securing to the frame. This prevents drafts and cold air from entering a property. The majority of UPVC lever pad style handles are available in left and right handed versions that allow them to be put on either side of doors.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks can be found on uPVC and other types of doors. They operate with a key to unlock a cylinder that will reveal pins that can be aligned to those in the lock body and permitting them to turn an revolving cam, opening the door. Euro Cylinders are available with up to six pins. Doors that are internal and external require different levels of security.

The choice of cylinder is essential. It depends on the type of use your doors and handles will receive. For instance, doors that are external should be fitted with an extra secure cylinder, while doors inside can be secured with an ordinary cylinder. Some cylinders have extra features that can improve security, for instance, anti-drill or anti bump properties.

To ensure that the euro cylinder is of the right size for your door, it must be measured correctly. The cylinder must be measured from the screw hole at the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn, in the event that one is present. If you cannot measure using the lock in a fixed position, you can take it out of it. A cylinder that extends beyond the handle and escutcheon could be vulnerable to attacks such as snapping locks, so it is important that it is not too long.

The design of the latest cylinders comes with anti-drilling as well as bump resistance features. These features are designed to minimize the chances of an attack by causing the cylinder to rotate in a different direction. This can help prevent attacks and keep your doors safe.

There are cylinders that are constructed to withstand snapping. This is a more frequent type of attack on cylinders which is where the break line of the lock is targeted by a tool that is specially designed to snap off the front of the cylinder to allow the door to open. This is much quicker and less difficult than opening the door with multipoint locks and leaves little evidence of a break-in, which could hinder the insurance claim.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette is found within the base plate of your door handle. It provides a sprung solution to help return your multipoint lock handles back to their original position after usage. The handles were previously equipped with no spring and would drop when the locking mechanism was removed. This simple feature is among the best methods to correct this and it is also a great way to prevent your doors made of upvc from getting stuck in the open or closed position, as they aren't always simple to manually close by hand.

These spring cassettes were created to be used with a sprung multipoint locks. They won't work with handles that are not sprung and you'll have to cut a hole into the backplate to allow them to fit. (Please check the image for a technical diagram). These cassettes can be used as a replacement to damaged or missing cassettes that are in the backplate of uPVC door handles. They feature a square cut out which allows for an 8mm spindle to be used and they are supplied individually.
