The item upgrade is an enchantment that boosts the base stats of certain weapons or armor. This includes secondary stats such as Leech or Speed.

Universal upgrades can be used on any type of equipment and offer fewer benefits than other components that are equipment type specific.

Leveling

The upgrade system lets players enhance items by increasing their level. The increase in level also increases the item's "guaranteed" bonuses. Every level upgrade grants a bonus based on tier and increases a stat by +3. These bonuses range from +3 to a +1 bonus, to random buffs.

Upgrade materials are gathered when players clear their content and can be used to enhance or replace an item. Each item requires a different kind of upgrade material. Weapons require Destruction Stones, while armor requires Guardian or Harmony Leapstones. The materials are named after when the item is upgraded, such as Stone Fragments become Stones and Harmony Shards become Life Shards.

It is crucial to upgrade items in order to boost a character's performance. However it is equally important to think about how much this will cost. Each time an item is upgraded, the upgrade costs an amount of gold that could be better spent on an entirely new piece of equipment. This is the reason it's recommended to upgrade the most essential items in a particular situation.

This usually involves upgrading the weapon first, then the legs and chest and finally the helm. If the player is able to afford it upgrading trinkets must be considered at this point to increase their potential to trigger. The process of rerolling is similar to the level up system. Reroll tokens are a way to eliminate any Level Up option from your item and exchange it for another. Reroll tokens like Level Up do not reset the level of an item. This means that if you reroll an upgraded item, it will no longer be at that level and won't have its extra bonus.

Players can also make use of the special mechanic Eliminate, to eliminate any level Up option they have on their equipment or weapons. This is useful when you've lost a gacha or you want to reroll an item with five stars. To do this, you'll require a new account or sign up through social media.

In every town, you can also visit an Occultist to change the Aspects or stats of a weapon armor. This is useful if have an epic five-star unit that you want to improve, or if you have an elite four-star character that you're struggling with.

Another way to reroll an item is to use the rerolling tokens that are earned by completing quests. They can be bought from the Occultist for 300 gold, or they can be found in the holozon boxes which are dropped after having completed certain dungeons. You can reroll any armor, weapon, or ring simply by moving the icon on the page of your unit and locking the lock to the desired slot.

Sets

A set is a collection of items that are alike in some way. You will use sets on a regular basis for things like a dozen eggs or a group of friends. They are useful because they help you organize things, and also operations like intersection, union and distinction help you manage them efficiently. Sets can be used in a variety of ways, including arranging the music on a playlist or dividing students based on their grades.

In Nioh the game, Sets are used to provide special effects when players are wearing pieces from a specific armor set. These bonuses, also known as Set Bonuses, are similar and sometimes superior to Effects. While it is not explained in the universe why armor sets need to be worn together to create these effects, they do give a nice change of pace when playing the game. The armor sets that have Set Bonuses are found in many places around Hyrule like the Dark Moon Temple and Twilight Temple.

Set Bonuses are associated with each piece of equipment within the Set. You can identify which ones are available by hovering over the item and then looking at the tooltip at the bottom. Set Bonuses are presented in a box with a red border.

Some of these set bonuses are only available to certain equipment. If you purchase the entire Phantom Armor set, you will get +8 defense (instead of the +3 defense you receive with other gear). Some sets can only be obtained through completing specific tasks or buying them from the Auction House.

It is also possible to get Set Bonuses on multiple pieces of equipment at the same time. If you own the entire Kestra's Descent Set and the matching parts of Twinblade of Shadow, you will receive the version with the + set's bonus, if you be able to match them.

Set Bonuses remain the same, despite the equipment to which they are attached is upgraded. If an item is exemplarized to levels that are too low the set bonus will cease working.

Set bonuses

Set bonuses are unique effects that can appear on an item set and give a bonus to the player in combat. Set bonuses don't stack within a set, but they can stack across sets. This is a great option for players who wish to combine sets in the best possible way. However, it requires some planning. Set bonuses only affect the shell (not the armoring or mods) of an item of equipment, therefore you need to be careful when placing them.

It is important to know that the value of the bonus of a set will not change even if your exemplar is more than three levels lower than the minimum allowed for an enhancement. This rule is not applicable to Purple (Very rare) Sets, PvP Sets and Archetype Origin Sets. Their set bonuses will be in effect regardless of the exemplar level.
