Claire, our tester, was impressed with the packaging. It was easy to open and clean. She found it to be among the most simple and quick pieces of baby equipment to set up. She took it to explore some rough terrain and was thrilled with its performance.

Seats

Most 3 wheel double buggy wheel double buggies start as single pushchairs. However, some models can be modified to accept the second seat using adapters. There are also models allow you to add a ride-on board for older children who want to walk, but need a little help.

Take a look at the Joie Evalite Duo for an ultra-lightweight option that is perfect for urban streets. It's easy to move and has a large basket with lots of storage. It can accommodate twins as young as birth and accommodate two car seats as well as a carrycot and seat. The seats are required to face forwards and there's no room for a shopping bag underneath, so you'll need a sidepack to do that.

Mountain Buggy Duet will be the best 3 wheel buggy choice if you enjoy off-road driving. It's a side-byside model with the smallest footprint of any double buggy on the market. This allows it to fit through narrow doors and on public transport, and also allows you to go up and down kerbs without too much trouble. The adjustable handlebar comes with an additional handbrake for safety and security.

Another option that is light weight is the UPPAbaby Vista 2 Double that can be used for twins or a baby and toddler. The seats have a multi-position reclining with UPF 50+ sunshades. The canopy can be adjusted so that the sun doesn't get into your child's eyes. The Vista 2 can even be transformed into a triple by the addition of UPPAbaby's "PiggyBack board for older and mobile kids.

The iCandy Orange is one of the most well-known double buggies that are available, thanks to its superb comfort. It's an all terrain pushchair, with a soft suspension to make easy work of bumpy surfaces. It can accommodate a massive 30 seating configurations, and includes an integrated ride-on board that can be used for older children who prefer walking, plus a 'cinema seating' mode that raises the back of the seat to allow for better visibility.

The phil&teds dot is a great single buggy that is available from day one that can then easily adapt to take 2 (or 3!) in multiple configurations. This is particularly useful for parents who have children in a car. The frame can be affixed to a wedgie that allows for optimal lie-flat positioning. Or car seat adapters that work with a wide range of brands.

Suspension

The suspension of a triple wheeled buggy will determine the ease with which your child/children and you can push it. A smooth ride is crucial because babies feel every bump on the road, especially if it's on rough terrain such as grass or unpaved paths. Some models also come with locking front wheels to assist in maneuvering and navigating obstacles like curbs.

Some models come with air-filled tyres which will provide a fantastic all-terrain adventure, but they could be susceptible to punctures, so ensure you have a spare set in the trunk. Other models use gel or foam tyres, designed to withstand bumps and can be less prone to punctures, however, you may find them a little stiff and uncomfortable for your child's back if you decide to run.

MFM reviewer Kath test-driven the Urban Glide 2 with her newborn and 3-year-old and found it very capable on difficult terrain. "It navigated effortlessly across bumpy sidewalks and grass cobbles, dirt tracks. It was also easy to maneuver around corners and climb up or down kerbs." Folding

A 3-wheel double buggy can fold pretty easily to store it. There are models that fold flat and then stand up (as as if they're in a pushchair position) and also ones that pop out to reveal an umbrella-style fold with the option of a brake operated by hand. The more wheels the buggy has, in general, the easier it is to maneuver through rough terrain. This is especially true when the wheels are larger than the average. This will give you more stability and reduce the chance that your children will fall over or tip over.

A popular option is the iCandy Wave, which can be used from birth with an infant car seat. It then converts to a side-by-side double buggy once your child is old enough to allow them to be seated next to each one. It's a light option that is easy to push. It also comes with a bumper bar and a rain cover.

Another alternative is the phil&teds sport that is a future-proof model because it's a fantastic single buggy from day dot and then adapts to take two (or even 3 wheel double stroller!) All of this is contained in its compact footprint. It features a clever 3-wheel design and a sling seat for greater maneuverability, stability and kerb pop.

This is one of the best double buggies to jog in with your children. It comes with an adjustable front wheel that locks, that will allow you to maintain control over hills or off-road terrain. It features a big undercarriage, a movable handlebar, and soft suspension for an enjoyable ride.

It's a light and compact model that folds easily by one hand, making it ideal for travel. It is compatible with many infant car seats and comes with a handy undercarriage basket to store shopping. It is a bit expensive however, it does have several notable features, like its one-click folding feature and a host of extras, including bumper bars or raincovers.

Stores

Many people are impressed by the capacity of storage offered by a 3 wheel double buggy. Certain models, such as the Roma Atlas, have a large basket as well as two zip pockets on the hood that you can keep your keys and phone. It's also designed to deal with a bit of rough terrain, so it's a great choice for family walks or all-terrain strolls.

Other models, such as the UPPAbaby Vista 2, offer plenty of space and possibility of transporting twins or a child and a toddler. (This is made possible by their 'PiggyBack' board). It's the smallest side-byside double on the market. It also comes with impressive features, such as LED visibility lights that are placed on each side of its frame to increase safety in low-light situations.

The Joie Evalite Duo, a stroller that is light enough to accommodate twins from birth and is a world-facing stroller with a lie-flat seat, is something different. The frame's clever design expands widthways to accommodate the extra seat, but it only weighs about 11kg so it's easy to lift and manoeuvre. It can also accommodate an infant car seat or carrycot, so you can have the best of both worlds and it future proofs your wallet since you don't need to purchase a new buggy as soon as you get it.
